THE ELDERLY GIVEN FREE EYE GLASSES

Walk of Hope Charity Organization in partnership with Dr Thanuja Panicker of EyeLight Optometrists last week conducted free eye tests and donated ninety eight spectacles at a cost of over P10 000 to the elderly people of Mosima/ Sebele ward in Molepolole.

Speaking during the eye screening process, Optometrist Panicker, said that they have realised that the elderly suffer eye problems and they are the mostly neglected. “Many elders cannot afford spectacles,  we are therefore trying to bridge the gap for those who cannot afford this important service by providing it for free,” she said.

A total of nine elders were referred for further consultations at health facilities whereas thirty-nine were given reading glasses, forty normal glasses, ten abnormal glasses and nine  sunglasses.

The Founder and Director of Walk of Hope, Ms Theriso Motsemeng stated that as a way to  celebrate Walk of Hope 10 years anniversary to be held on 10 March 2023, they have set themselves a target of giving back to the community. “Recently we have been donating school shoes, wheel chairs and food hampers to the community at large. We shall be giving back as usual but it’s going to be big ten villages including Moshupa, Mogoditshane and Lentsweletau,” she said.

The elders applauded Walk of Hope for the good work they have done to change their lives and also for responding positively to government plea for partnership in responding to challenges facing the country.
