Kgosi Kgari Sechele III is concerned about the high number of marriage wrecking cases brought before the Kgotla from all over Kweneng. He noted that in most civil matters they resolve , spouses never sue another for bringing a third party into the marriage leading to its collapse. He told Kweneng Chronicles in an interview that the aggrieved spouse always sue the third party and not their partner who was involved with third party.
He mentioned that the charge for marriage wrecking under customary law is 8 cows but if its money, the court decides the price per beast.
Kgosi Kgari warned those with the habit of engaging in extra marital affairs with married people to stop before they face the wrath of the law. In addition, he said marriage wrecking is mostly due to one partner’s unfaithfulness, scheming and lies.
He added that the numbers for marriage wrecking cases are high and some come as appeals from all over Kweneng. “Some marriage wrecking cases never reach us as families intervene,” he said.
