Member of Parliament for Molepolole North Constituency, Honourable Oabile Regoeng yesterday visited Moruakgomo Community Junior Secondary School in Molepolole as part of his Stakeholder engagement meetings. Hon. Regoeng expressed concern over poor performance and bad behaviour in the school.
In his address, Mr Regoeng said Moruakgomo CJSS, is well known for bad behaviour which in the end contributes to poor performance.
He urged parents to work collaboratively with the school management to come up with possible solutions that would help mould the student’s behaviour. Moreover, he mentioned that parents should not abdicate their parental responsibility to discipline thier children for bad behaviour to the Police and teachers.
Honourable Regoeng also urged the form 1s and 2s to stop indulging in substance abuse as it will destroy their future.
The School Head, Mrs Lenthaletse Galeitse, in her welcome remarks, noted that poor teacher welfare and lack of parental care are the major contributing factors to poor performance. Mrs Galeitse decried shortage of water within the school premises, poor network accessibility and sharing of teachers houses.
She added that parents abandon students to live alone while they stay at the lands , hence no encouragement to learn resulting in lack of commitment in education. Owing to lack of parental guidance, students start engaging in bad activities like smoking and alcohol consumption.
Lastly, on behalf of students, the school President, Mr Bokang Mpete mentioned that shortage of resources is an issue of concern to them since it delays their learning process. He also complained of the school environment stating that it is not conducive for learning. “There is shortage of toilets in our school, we are still using pit latrines, Honourable, we plead with you, we need water system toilets”, Bokang said.
