MOLEPOLOLE DISTRICT HEALTH MANAGEMENT TEAM RECORDS 177 NEW HIV/AIDS CASES IN 3 MONTHS

Molepolole Ministers  Fraternal together with Molepolole residents on Friday gathered  at Molepolole Stadium to participate in the national launch of  Month of Prayer Against HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence and Road Traffic Crushes. Throughout the month of September 2023 prayer sessions will be held in an effort to address  social ills through prayer, and instill hope and faith in  communities.

This year prayers are held under the theme “A prayerful youth: Gateway to a healthy lifestyle” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 which translates to ” Monana yo o rapelang: Tsela ya botsogo jo bontle” Deuteronomy 30:19-20.

Giving an overview of HIV/AIDS issues from District Health Management Team, Dr Mazerere said they are pleased that these year they recorded zero positive HIV/AIDS  newborns. She mentioned that they had over 1700 HIV/AIDS positive expectant mothers of which they all enrolled in HIV/AIDS Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission  Programme (PMTCT). “For the period of April to June, we recorded 177 new HIV/AIDS cases and managed to distribute over 100 000 condoms”, said Dr Mazerere.

Speaking during the launch, on behalf of Kweneng District Commissioner Ms Maitumelo Maemo said that they are concerned about  youth behavior. She mentioned that almost all bad activities such as pasion killings and drug abuse are done by the  youth.

She therefore  implored parents to practice behavioral change, instil good values in children  and remain prayerful. She also advised that people should not lose hope but continue calling and trusting upon the Lord.

When giving vote of thanks the member of parliament for Molepolole North constituency honorable Oabile Regoeng acknowledged the role church plays stating that it is part of the multi sectoral  approach to ending HIV/AIDS.
