Residents of Molepolole will have to wait a little bit longer to quench thier thirst with water from the north.
The Molepolole-Gamononyane North South Carrier Connection Water Project was awarded in August 2021 to Zhengtai/Dan Joint Venture at a cost of BWP785,565,355.17.
The project is meant to augment water supply to villages in Kweneng, mainly Molepolole, Gamononyane, Kopong, Gakutlo, Mmatseta, Lentsweletau, Kweneng, Medie, Dikgatlhong, Gamodubu, Gakgatla, Mmanoko and Thebephatshwa Airbase.
Kweneng District Council chairman Allen Jacob says the contractor engaged on the project has requested for an extension of time. The project was supposed to be complete this year in March but contractor’s new completion date is September 2023.
As to when Bakwena will have constant water flow, Jacob said he does not have a concrete answer as the project has become ‘unpredictable.’ Moreover, he said the Molepolole Water and Sanitation project has not been funded yet but it does not impede water distribution from Gamonomyane as the old network can be used in the mean time to end Bakwena’s years of thirst.
Jacob was speaking in an interview with Kweneng Chronicles.
