The Assistant Minister of Local Government And Rural Development Honourable Setlhabelo Modukanele today officiated at a ground breaking ceremony of the multi million pula construction of Molepolole Administration Offices in Molepolole, Bakwena main kgotla.
The P25m project, is awarded to citizen contractor and consultants. The new double storey facility is designed to accommodate at least 25 offices, a boardroom, conference rooms, storage facilities, car parks, storm and sewarage reticulation networks.It is expected to be completed on the 19th February 2024.
According to Minister Modukanele, government attaches great importance to Kgotla system as a custodian of governance and conflict resolution through nation building and promotion of social cohesion. He also mentioned that it is government’s commitment to provide modern offices that are aesthetically appealing and reflective of local culture.
Minister Modukanele also said government has resolved to upgrade Customary Court offices in Maun and Mochudi too in oder to improve service delivery within Tribal Administration. ” I wish to remind contractors to ensure that they meet their contractual obligations to deliver a high quality product within time and budgets as agreed with Kweneng District Council”, said Minister Modukanele.
When giving the project background, the Kweneng Council District Chairman, Honourable Allen Jacob said through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development his council undertook the Design of the Molepolole Kgotla in 2019 and designs were completed in 2020.
Mr Jacob declared that these works were awarded at a total cost of BWP 22 854 688.39 divided as follows; Palatine Holdings (Pty) Ltd for building works at the amount of BWP 15 810 078.49, Glancemore (Pty) Ltd for electrical works at the amount BWP 3 406 103,92 and Snapbox for mechanical works at the amount BWP 2 189 326.68. He alsomention that project management of the works has also been outsourced to Tectura International at the cost of BWP 1 449 179.30.
For his part Kgosi Kgari Sechele III when giving vote of thanks encouraged the contractor to create employment for Bakwena first and applauded the Ministry together with the council saying the facility will address a great challenge of office accomodation problems for the staff and improve their service delivery.
