KWENENG CONVERSATIONS: WHAT’S IN IT FOR KWENENG IN 2023

The year 2022 came and gone. Just like the previous years, the District was characterized by few good news and a myriad of not so good news. We can only hope for the best for 2023 developmental wise. Below are some of the issues to look out for in 2023.

  1. WATER
Water woes in Molepolole and surrounding villages are to end in the first quarter of the year with the connection to NSC Gamononyane project. Although its a welcome development, businesses that thrive on bouncing and selling water will suffer a huge blow.
  2. THE RACE TO THE 2024 NATIONAL ELECTIONS

All parliamentary constituencies in Kweneng were won by BDP. 2023 marks the beginning of the race to the 2024 national elections. Will the BDP retain all the constituencies, namely; Molepolole South,Molepolole North,Thamaga-Kumakwane, Gabane-Mmankgodi, Mogoditshane,Takatokwane,Letlhakeng-Lephepe, Lentsweletau-Mmopane.

  1. WILL MOGODITSHANE GET A NEW CONSTITUENCY?

The population census revealed that Mogoditshane has a 88 098 inhabitants. The delimitation commission has been consulting Batswana on additional constituencies. A constituency is made of 35 000 or more people so Mogoditshane qualifies for another constituency.

  1. RENAMING THE DISTRICT

The Presidential Commission of enquiry into the the review of the Constitution of Botswana recommends that some districts which are named after certain tribes be renamed with tribally neutral names. Kweneng District to be renamed Kobokwe -Dithejwane Tribal Region.

Similarly, Kweneng District Council to be renamed Kobokwe-Dithejwane District Council and Kweneng Landboard to be renamed Kobokwe-Dithejwane Region Tribal Land Board.

The recommendations were recieved with mixed feelings and mostly resentment from Kweneng residents, will these recommendations be implemented?

  1. ROADS IN KWENENG

The district has one of the most appalling roads in the country. There has been talk of constructing a dual carriageway from Metsimotlhabe to Molepolole, will the Molepolole have a bypass road to decongest the main road that passes through the village? Will the Molepolole Thamaga Road ever be completed? What other roads in Kweneng do you think deserve to be tarred?

  1. A BIGGER AND BETTER POLICE STATION FOR MOLEPOLOLE

Molepolole residents have for many years decried the state of the current police station. Will 2023 bring any sign of a better police station for Molepolole?

What are some of the Kweneng
Issues you wish to see addressed or atleast seriously discussed in 2023?
