PASTOR ORDERED TO PAY MAINTENACE

Molepolole magistrate Solomon Setshedi ordered that a dead beat father pay P1000 per month starting end of September 2024 until the child attains maturity or can support himself. The ruling was made in the defendant’s absence.

The plaintiff, 51 year old Dorcas Motatuki  upon questioning by magistrate, revealed that he fell in love with Charles Rio in
2008 and they used to stay together.

She said they  had unprotected sexual intercourse and fell pregnant in November 2011 and gave birth on 30 June 2012. Magistrate had asked what makes her certain that Rio is the baby’s father. She also answered that he was aware of the pregnancy and accepted responsibility.

Motatuki said after the birth of the child he assisted though it was too little but stopped assisting in 2022 and do not know his reasons.

The child was premature. In his ruling, Setshedi said the defendant is the father of the boy according to evidence of plaintiff.

“I want P1000 and he can afford it as he has two salaries. He is a pastor who is paid monthly and a teacher as well,” she said.

Magistrate also asked if he has access to the child and she said yes.

He was also ordered to buy clothes for the child seasonaly and granted access to his child. Magistrate also advised that he can apply for variation. The court will deliver the order and explain to the defendant what it means.
