KWENENG PEOPLE: OUR PEOPLE: LAONE RANKO; THE ACADEMIC GENIUS

Meet Laone Ranko, a 16 year old from Ntsono ward in Molepolole. She attained Merit in her Junior certificate exams.
Laone is a former student of Motswasele Junior Secondary School. She attained 8 As and a B. Speaking in an interview with Kweneng Chronicles, Laone said she had always been a high flyer as she got A in her PSLE at Suping Primary School.

She says her role model is Albert Einstein who once said,”some people dream of success while others wake up and work for it. ” She says the quote encouraged her to work hard as she has always dreamt of being successful.

Her other motivation is the fact that she grew up in financially struggling family and this encouraged her as she wants to change the economic status of her family.
“I have a younger brother and we live with our mother,” she said.

In junior school, Laone did not participate in sporting activities as they were stopped but played netball at primary school.
“I am going to school at St Joseph’s and will want to pursue a programme related to medicine thereafter.”

The young lady said she did not care being called names by her mates owing to her dedication towards studying. “Some said i think i am better than them. To other students, believe you can and do it. Dont let the other person’s view get to you and destroy your dreams.” She said.

Her mother, Onkgethetse Ranko said she was very strict and checked her books whenever she came from school. “I took leave as i was working as a shop assistant then when she was sitting for exams so she could focus on school and not home chores,” she explained. Although she is unemployed now, she has savings that will be used to get Laone school necessities.

“Ngwanake o rata go opela mme ga pala.” She concluded with a laughter. Out of 7 merits countrywide, 2 are from Kweneng. One is from Letlole Mosielele Junior Secondary School in Thamaga. You made Kweneng proud, keep shining Laone, the sky is not even your limit!
