Thamaga station commander Superintendent Moses Kwarare revealed that copper theft is the most common crime in Thamaga.
He said criminals steal copper used to wire houses and connect geysers. No suspects have been apprehended yet however the police are following up on some leads. Most of the wires are stolen at night.
Kwarare says they have one scrap yard in Thamaga and they have conducted searches and found nothing which leads them to believe the stolen copper is sold outside Thamaga.
“We have raided the scrap yard without prior notice and still returned empty handed,” he explained.
He requested the public to provide them with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.
