“Everybody that makes health their business is our friend” these are the words uttered by the marketing manager of Bokamoso Private Hospital Ms Kagiso Motsumi signifying the kind of relationship they have with Journey of Hope Botswana during a handover ceremony held at the hospital yesterday.
Bokamoso donated items worth over 250 000 to Journey of Hope Botswana in preparation for their upcoming event called “THE BIG JOURNEY” set to happen this year to increase awareness on breast cancer.
The sponsored items consisted of a P15,000 cheque consumables for breast examinations, aspirations, biopsies, laboratory fee sponsorship, mammogram, breast ultrasound sponsorship and lastly 2000 story colouring books on awareness of breast cancer for kids accompanied by 500 packs of crayons.
Speaking at handover ceromony, Coordinator of Journey of Hope Botswana, Ms Onica Lekuntwane pointed out that Bokamoso has been thier main medical sponsor ever since the organisation started hence she will always be grateful to them.”Thank you Bokamoso for listening to our pleas.” she said.
Ms Lekuntwane also stated that the Big Journey is an annual trip which is a week long undertaken by 30-40 volunteers and is focused on creating awareness on breast cancer as well as examining to see if people have breast cancer. “Every year we identify a district in the country and we go to different clinics within that district to teach and test over 250 to 500 people.” she stated.
The Coordinator indicated that this year they have chosen the North East District and because it’s large they will be focusing at Greater Francistown areas. She further said that their mission is to attend to over 600 patients this year in every clinic they approach.
“We will be going to Tonota, Tati side, Matshelagabedi, Mathangwane, Orapa, Letlhakane and Palapye.” She added.
Lastly the Coordinator expressed that Bokamoso’s donation has cushioned some of the financial challenges they were facing in preparation for the event.
